The College delivers a range of academic, professional and technical training programmes, including apprenticeships, HNCs, HNDs, foundation degrees and professional qualifications up to the equivalent of master’s degrees, as well as short courses for businesses, part-time courses and English for overseas students. Each year Gloucestershire College welcomes over 5,000 full-time students and 10,000 part-time students, and employs over 1,000 members of staff across all sites.
As the leading apprenticeship provider in the country, we work with over 1, 200 businesses to train 1,380 apprentices across 17 industry areas including engineering, construction, IT, accounting, marketing, motor vehicle, dental nursing, hospitality and health and social care. Our apprenticeships range from Level 2 to Level 6 (degree level) and we work with SMEs with just two members of staff, right up to large international companies with hundreds of employees.
As well as apprenticeships for school leavers, GC also works with employers delivering professional and technical training programmes to future proof talent pipelines, give expert advice on using the funding available to address skills gaps in their organisation and reach their goals. In 2018 we opened our Business School at Llanthony Priory, offering accredited, professional qualifications in leadership and development, accountancy, IT, cyber, HR and marketing - all accredited by their respective awarding bodies including AAT, ACCA, CIPD, BCS, CILEX, CMI, ILM and CIM.
We have built close links with companies in the region of Forest of Dean, supporting the Gloucestershire 2050 vision and keeping young talent in the area. We work alongside small and large Forest businesses offering apprenticeships and work placements, including Simplicity and Five Acres Garage.
Matthew Burgess, Principal at Gloucestershire College, said: “At Gloucestershire College, the backbone of our educational philosophy is to ensure our students leave College work-ready, and best equipped to remain in the county and contribute to the region's workforce. Our broad range of apprenticeships, further and higher education courses - from engineering through to computing and business studies - means we are a key pivot in future-proofing our local economy.”
